From restaurant robots to military tech, Steven Simoni and co-founder Luke Allen have pivoted Silicon Valley marketing skills into defense innovation. Their company, Allen Control Systems, is developing AI-powered anti-drone systems, including the Bullfrog, a turret capable of shooting drones out of the sky.
With $40 million in funding, including backing from Craft Ventures, the startup has already secured prototype contracts with the U.S. Army and Special Operations Forces. The Bullfrog is designed for integration on vehicles, unmanned boats, or as stationary perimeters, with an AI-enabled targeting system under field testing.
Simoni, a Navy veteran, has become the public face of the company, leveraging media appearances, podcasts, and strategic networking to connect with both investors and defense officials. The company also explores advanced systems like laser dazzlers and aerial drones named the “Scourge.”
The team aims to go public via a SPAC next year, betting on the convergence of AI, defense technology, and investor enthusiasm. While some observers warn of the risks of hype-driven defense tech, Allen Control Systems exemplifies Silicon Valley’s growing role in shaping the future of warfare.
